Read the listing properly

Six phrases that mean "not solid wood".

All six are legal. All six appear on Indian furniture listings every day. Here is what each one is covering for.

“Engineered wood”

What it actually isWood dust and glue, pressed into board. It is a manufactured sheet, not timber. It cannot be repaired and it will not hold a screw twice.

“Sheesham finish”

What it actually isA photograph of sheesham, printed onto laminate and wrapped around board. The word doing the work here is “finish”.

“Solid wood construction”

What it actually isSome part of it is solid. Usually only the legs. The panels, doors and top — the expensive parts — are board.

“Premium MDF”

What it actually isMDF. There is denser MDF and looser MDF, but the word premium is doing nothing here that the price tag isn't.

“Wood composite”

What it actually isAlso MDF, or particle board. Composite means the wood was broken down and reassembled with adhesive.

“Rubberwood”

What it actually isReal timber, and honestly labelled — but soft, light and cheap. Perfectly good for a stool or a small side table. Not for a bed frame or a wardrobe that has to carry weight for twenty years.

Ours say solid sheesham, solid mango, solid acacia. Where we use plywood, which is on drawer bottoms and cabinet backs and is both normal and structurally sensible, the product page says so. Hiding it would make us the seventh entry on this list.

Rules for choosing furniture

How to check solid wood furniture joints and timber quality

Whether living on your own or with a family, your living room is an important space.

This room is where your family spends time together, and it is the room most of your guests will spend the majority of their time in. Choosing furniture that creates a pleasant, welcoming appearance while holding up against the wear and tear of everyday life is the key in getting this space to work for your needs.

Straight answers

The questions people ask before ordering.

Will solid wood crack in my city?

It can move — that is what solid wood does, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling engineered board. Our timber is seasoned before it is cut, which prevents the splitting you see in cheap furniture. You may still get hairline surface checks in very dry heat, or a stiff drawer in high humidity. Both are normal, and both are covered: send us a photo and we will sort it.

How long does delivery take, and do you assemble it?

Usually seven to twelve days to most Indian cities for in-stock pieces, and longer for hand-carved items being made to order. Delivery includes carrying it in and assembling it in the room you want it in, and we take the packaging away with us. If you need it by a particular date, tell us before you order and we will confirm what is possible.

Can I get a different size or finish?

Usually yes — this is a workshop, not a warehouse. Table lengths, bed sizes and wardrobe heights can be changed, and most pieces can be made in a different stain. Custom work adds roughly two to three weeks, and we quote before anything is cut.

What if it doesn't fit, or I don't like it?

Measure your doorway diagonal and the wall you are filling, then send us the numbers — we will check the piece against them before you order, and that solves it for most people. Every product page lists exact dimensions in centimetres. If it still is not right, tell us within seven days of delivery and we will collect it and refund you. Made-to-order and custom pieces are the exception. Full returns policy.

Is there any MDF or particle board in these?

Not in the frames, tops, legs or doors. Drawer bottoms and cabinet backs on some pieces use plywood, which is standard practice and structurally sensible — the product page tells you which parts are which. If anything is unclear on a listing, ask us and we will tell you straight.

Do you offer EMI?

Yes, on cards and through the usual pay-later options at checkout. Three, six and nine-month plans are available on larger orders — the tenures you qualify for are shown at checkout before you pay.

Can I see the furniture before I buy?

Yes. Our workshop and showroom is in Jodhpur, and the range is on the floor there, including pieces still in production. Plan a visit, or call us on +91 91667 60900 and we will walk you through anything over the phone.
