Restaurant and café furniture takes more punishment in a year than domestic furniture takes in a decade. Chairs get dragged rather than lifted, tables are cleaned repeatedly, and seating can be in use for long service periods every day. Furnliv builds made-to-order contract furniture in its Jodhpur workshop for restaurants, cafés and other hospitality spaces that need solid wood furniture specified for heavier use.
Why restaurant furniture is different
The failure points are predictable, which is what makes them designable around.
- Chair joints. A domestic dining chair is sat on a few times a day. A café chair is used far more intensively and dragged across hard floors. We use heavier frame stock and joinery appropriate to the design rather than treating hospitality seating as ordinary domestic furniture.
- Upholstery. Where upholstered seating is specified, the fabric and construction need to suit repeated commercial use rather than occasional domestic use.
- Table bases. Corner legs limit where you can seat people. Pedestal and trestle layouts can free more of the perimeter where the design allows it.
- Finish. A hospitality finish has to tolerate repeated cleaning and everyday wear.

Made to fit the venue
Restaurant and café projects are rarely solved by choosing furniture from a fixed catalogue alone. Table dimensions, seat heights, bench lengths and finishes can affect circulation, cover count and how the room works in service. For higher quantities, bulk and wholesale furniture orders are handled as production runs rather than individual retail purchases. Architects and interior designers can also work through the trade programme.
How we work with venues
Send your floor plan or layout, quantities, target dimensions, project location and target opening or handover date. Furnliv can then review the requirement and quote against the actual specification rather than forcing the project into a standard domestic configuration.
Sizing a dining room
Useful planning checks include:
- Table space per diner. Allow enough edge length for place settings and comfortable elbow room.
- Seat-to-table relationship. Chair and stool heights need to match the selected table or counter.
- Circulation. Leave enough space behind occupied chairs for guests and service staff to move safely.
- Wall-side seating. Benches can sometimes improve space efficiency where the layout suits them.
